FRACTURED-OCT 13- Melbourne vs Sydney Breaks Battle

Australia has two real homes for breakbeat music: Fractured in Melbourne and Break Inn in Sydney. After a lot of fence-yelling and â€˜your mommaâ€™ jokes, theyâ€™ve finally decided to battle it out in both cities. On October 13th at Fractured and October 27th at Break Inn, witness the clash of the breaks titans as Blueprint, Bass Kleph, Thayer, Dopamine, Lynt and Steve Lind all vie for the broken beat trophy to take home to their respective clubs.

This is a great opportunity to catch the cream of Australiaâ€™s breaks scene melting wax, all in one deeply broken night. Where else are you going to get the countryâ€™s best syncopated producers under one roof in one blistering evening? Nowhere, my friend.

A few interview's with the lads..

â€œIt should be a hoot,â€ says Melbourneâ€™s Blueprint, aka Glenn Rogers. â€œIâ€™ve been looking forward to seeing the Sydney boys play for a while. Bass Kleph rocked it at the ITM party and I haven't had a chance to see Dopamine play in Melbourne yet; his â€˜System Errorâ€™ tune is brilliant.â€
Blueprint has been playing Fractured parties for a couple of years now, making a name for himself as a leading breakbeat producer and DJ. â€œI first played for Fractured alongside another Glenn of Future Funk Squad over at Platform One. Chris and the guys always put on a top night and have been doing it for a long time now.â€
Busy in the studio for a while working on new tracks, Glenn says he has some sweeties for the show, which he is looking forward to showcasing at the gig, where they will count. â€œIâ€™m just finishing up a new track called â€˜What You Areâ€™, and I have a remix of Big Pig's â€˜Breakawayâ€™ which has been doing really well.â€
Blueprint reckons all the DJs will be whispering backstage about plugins and Myspace accounts, but there will still be that friendly rivalry, and where thereâ€™s a contest there is always a winner and a loser. He hypothesises cryptically, â€œSydney look good off the flop, but I think Melbourne will take it with the river. There's a tonne of talent in the city so honoured to be asked to be a part of it, hopefully can do a good job representing, should be a great nightâ€¦â€
With 10 years experience behind the decks, Sydneyâ€™s Dopamine (Matt Goddard) brings his unique take on breaks, roping in techno and electro sounds into the mix, to the twin nights. â€œThis is raising the level of the night, bringing it closer to what youâ€™d expect to see at a big festival or something, but youâ€™re seeing it in an intimate setting. The punters are really getting their moneyâ€™s worth on a night like this. Itâ€™s going to be quite special, I think.
â€œUsually if I come to Melbourne Iâ€™ll catch up with Nick briefly, heâ€™ll have two other gigs that night and Iâ€™ll see him for ten minutes. To actually have everyone under the one roof is quite a novelty, actually. Iâ€™m sure there will be a lot of Jager bombs going around. Weâ€™ll all probably be smashed by the end of the night, but it will be worth it. Iâ€™m not exactly sure how it is going to work with slots for this one. It doesnâ€™t really matter how we do it. At the end of the day, itâ€™s about putting on a good show for the crowd.â€
So the debate can finally be swept under the carpet, at least in breakbeat circles, as to which city has the best DJs. Or maybe not, maybe everyone will be so busy enjoying themselves that theyâ€™ll forget all about the contest and just decide that everybody is a winner, after all.
