bad mc's:
- not shutting up
- omitting the last two letters of the word "noise"
- big-upping, holdtighting and reaching out to fools for minutes at a time
- unintelligible/skibba banter
- singing over the top of vocal tracks
- ragga-voiced mc's (for no real reason, i can't stand guys like eksman, etc)
- "selectah" <--- of the all time worst things _ever_ to happen to dnb (thankfully now out of fashion)
good mc's:
- guys who keep the track commentary to a minimum (ie: yo, yeah, what, switch, step, jump, ho!)
- long rhyming raps (see 2nd track of drs & calibre - genius. another thing i like is that he has little vocal lines for certain tracks in that mix, really clever)
- mcs who rap about more stuff than their own 'flows' (sp mc)
- singer-mcs (stamina, etc)

Gotta agree on the whole when listening to downloaded mixes that the MC generally says too much shit too often. Haven't checked this mix yet (downloading now), but usually I'm a massive fan of Fearless - particularly that set he did with Skibba in Toronto with Shy FX - wicked set!
I think seeing MC's live is so much better than on a recorded mix, coz you lose the vibe that they create when live, that's their main job, and it doesn't really translate well over a recording. Also the way these MC's are EQ'd is just plain offensive - too much low end IMO...

try GQ and MC MC.quick wrote:Granted, Hyper-d is where it started
Fearless can be OK, but he has a tendency to bust out the Skibbareoa.
it's still all about DRS and GQ for me (Conrad, Robert Manos and Cleveland Watkiss get the honourable mentions).

This was in refference to this new style of speed MC, where they spit out a million words/sounds a minute. Hyper D took this to a new level, but he was the only one who could pull it off that well, others tryed, but shouldn't have...system wrote:try GQ and MC MC.quick wrote:Granted, Hyper-d is where it started

right. well, Fearless is the only MC who's been able to pull that rapid-fire style off for me. I could never understand half the stuff that Hyper D was saying (and MCs like Posdnous are the lick).quick wrote:This was in refference to this new style of speed MC, where they spit out a million words/sounds a minute. Really Sash? Your weren't a fan of Hyper-D? The man was amazing, so versatile, and so original when he started...system wrote:right. well, Fearless is the only MC who's been able to pull that rapid-fire style off for me.
